Osteoporosis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly and influences quality of life, as well as life expectancy. For many years, Calcium and Vitamin D have been the primary focus of nutrition for prevention of osteoporosis. Although further clinical studies are needed, recent literature shows the importance of supplementation with vitamins C and K could be recommended for the maintenance of bone health. Results are interesting and Promising.
Panaxea’s K2C2D3 multivitamin contains Vitamin K, calcium, Vitamin C, and specialized Vitamin D3. Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is unique as it is a vitamin derived from 7-dehyrocholesterol. However, Vitamin D3 acquires hormone-like actions when cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is converted to 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D3 (calcitriol) by the liver and kidneys. As a hormone, calcitriol controls phosphorus, calcium, and bone metabolism as well as neuromuscular function. Vitamin K is often supplemented alongside Vitamin D, since vitamin K also supports bone health. In fact, taking both together will improve the effects of each, since they are known to work synergistically. Excessive vitamin D can lead to arterial and calcification, but vitamin K reduces this build up.
